About Us
Stockler Brunton is a four-member firm, comprising three partners and a consultant, of senior lawyers specialising in the following practice areas:
- Member of Firm: Area of Practice
- William Stockler: Commercial and Insolvency law; advice and litigation
- Geoffrey Brunton: Commodity trading, maritime and insurance litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution; Commercial Litigation
- Berry Holding-Parsons: Intellectual property law and technology
Each member of the firm has a body of knowledge and skills covering his particular practice areas, enabling him both to advise and draft documents in transaction work as well as to investigate, advise and represent clients in their disputes. Each member of the firm is primarily a litigator. Our work is 75% dispute-related and 25% contractual.
We aim for excellence in all work and we have a quality-control system to ensure that.
We are frequently on the opposite side of the nationwide and City firms, and our fee levels are very competitive compared to members of those firms of equivalent seniority. We adopt a cost-conscious approach to all the work we do, keeping our clients apprised at all times of the costs implications of all decisions.
William Stockler, our Senior Partner, often works in tandem with one other partner and our consultant in order to give clients the full benefit of our combined expertises. On particularly large cases the whole firm works together as a team.
William Stockler and Geoffrey Brunton hold Higher Court (Civil) rights of audience, which means that they are able to appear before the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Judicial Committee of the House of Lords. It is not therefore necessary to instruct Counsel although we do still instruct Counsel when this is in the client's best interests.
Geoffrey Brunton is also an accredited mediator.
Our clients comprise a broad range of business entities and individuals, from the United Kingdom and abroad. All of them are involved in a series of decisions of the greatest importance to the management of their corporate or personal affairs and they seek correct, prompt and practical advice and representation through the English legal system so as to achieve the best available outcome.
The firm is a founder member of International Law Firms or "ILF": a grouping of around 80 lawyers from many major trading centres around the world who regularly meet and work together. The firm is accordingly able to advise, through its ILF associates, on the laws of most major jurisdictions. For further information about ILF please click here to visit the ILF website.
Other languages spoken within the firm are German and French.
